Shower Leaks & Repair
If your shower is leaking, it’s important to get it fixed right away. Shower leaks can cause serious damage to your home if left unchecked. Luckily, shower leaks are relatively easy to fix yourself. In most cases, all you’ll need is a few tools and some basic knowledge of plumbing.
If you’re not sure where the leak is coming from, start by checking the showerhead. Oftentimes, leaks at the showerhead are caused by a loose connection. Tighten the connection with a wrench and see if that stops the leak. If not, you may need to replace the washer. To do this, simply unscrew the showerhead and remove the old washer. Replace it with a new one and screw the showerhead back on.
If the leak is coming from the faucet, it’s likely that the O-ring needs to be replaced. To do this, simply remove the handle and unscrew the retaining nut. Pull out the old O-ring and replace it with a new one. Screw everything back on and turn on the water to test for leaks.
In some cases, leaks are caused by cracks in the shower pan or tile. These need to be repaired by a professional. However, you can temporarily stop the leak by caulking around the edges of the shower.
No matter where the leak is coming from, it’s important to get it fixed as soon as possible. Shower leaks can cause serious damage to your home if left unchecked.
